“We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances.”
Learning Outside the Classroom – DfE 2006
Outdoor Education is not a curriculum topic but an approach that threads throughout schooling. Bringing children outdoors to learn, teaching practical skills in a range of topics, instilling a connection with the natural world and improving wellbeing. Outdoor education works in partnership with classroom learning to benefit learners in multiple ways and improve outcomes in all areas.
Although distinct in style of activities and delivery the different aspects of outdoor education can be delivered holistically and easily adapted to learner needs and abilities. Drawing from all aspects of outdoor education opens up possibilities to develop individualised curriculums for learners, following interests and responding to learners needs. Activities can be carefully scaffolded and delivered at an appropriate pace with measured outcomes.
We offer a range of consultancy and training to support the development of outdoor education in your school or educational setting. If you would like to find out more please contact us and we will arrange an informal chat to find out more about you, your settings needs, and development ideas.
