About Us

Land and Leaf Collective exists to create inclusive Forest School communities that foster connection with nature, each other, and ourselves. We facilitate holistic, hands-on outdoor learning that inspires curiosity, resilience, and environmental stewardship for all.

Our vision is to provide high-quality Forest School programs accessible to all areas of Lincolnshire, ensuring they are free, fully inclusive, and differentiated to meet diverse needs. We aim to offer outdoor and nature-based childcare within local communities, creating jobs, training opportunities, and a volunteer network that serves as a pathway to employment. By prioritising mental health and wellbeing across all our programs—for participants, staff, volunteers, and the wider community—we aim to build a strong network of Forest School providers throughout Lincolnshire, fostering a connected and resilient community.

Forest School

Forest school Sessions are transformational learning spaces which support mental and emotional wellbeing and enable participants to take control of their own learning. The principles guide leaders to develop programmes which are truly inclusive and accessible to all, support participants to develop self-esteem, resilience, communication skills, interpersonal skills and develop supportive communities.

During forest school sessions we gather together to share stories, songs and explore the natural environment. We draw from a wide range of resources such as games, fire lighting, nature crafts and tool use. Learning is carefully scaffolded to ensure all participants feel safe and supported, whilst developing skills and directing their own learning. Sessions include reflective time and are adapted to suit wide ranging needs. Forest school focuses on building confidence, developing skills and learning about the natural resources around us.

Forest school programmes are delivered in line with six guiding principles. which were agreed by the UK Forest School community in 2011.

Principle 1

Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.

Principle 2

Forest School takes place in a woodland or natural wooded environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world.

Principle 3

Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners

Principle 4

Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves.

Principle 5

Forest School is run by qualified Forest School practitioners who continuously maintain and develop their professional practice.

Principle 6

Forest School uses a range of learner-centred processes to create a community for development and learning.
